Skopje Urban Heat Island Map

Using the same analytical approach developed for Zagreb, we produced an urban heat island study for Skopje localized for the capital city — integrating satellite temperature data with 2021 census demographics at municipality level.

The output is an interactive map that helps planners, researchers, and communicators understand heat exposure in terms of who is affected, not just where temperatures are high.

• City-wide Heat Analysis: Temperature zones and statistical hotspot identification from satellite land-surface data.
• Municipality-level Census Layers: Population, households, and age structure (elderly, children, working age) integrated from the 2021 census.
• Exposure Indices: Composite layers combining heat intensity with vulnerable age groups to show where risk is concentrated.
• Interactive Layered Map: Designed for planners, researchers, and public communication — layers can be toggled to explore different dimensions of the data.

The analysis supports prioritization of cooling interventions, green infrastructure planning, and targeted social vulnerability responses across Skopje's municipalities.
